Uncover the Royal Bahamas Navy's case study

VSTEP successfully delivered a NAUTIS Full Mission Bridge Simulator to the Royal Bahamas Navy, which posed a particular challenge for Alphatron and VSTEP.

The task at hand was to replicate the bridge of this simulator to match four distinct DAMEN vessels. Overcoming this challenge, the solution was found in the form of a changeable steering console featuring touch screen panels.

This innovative approach allowed for easy transition between the bridge configurations of the different vessels, all while maintaining the user-friendly interface and convenience as essential aspects of the simulator.

“NAUTIS Naval simulator has significantly improved our training capabilities. The realistic simulation environment has allowed us to enhance our ship handling and tactical skills. It’s become an indispensable tool for our naval operations training.”

Frequently asked questions

What can naval crews train on a NAUTIS simulator?

The NAUTIS Naval Simulator combines realistic ship handling with tactical scenario training. Crews practise navigation, manoeuvring and bridge procedures in diverse operational environments, while instructors add the traffic, weather and mission elements that make naval watchkeeping demanding. The result is a safe environment for exercises that are costly or risky at sea.

Is NAUTIS used by operational navies?

Yes. A NAUTIS Full Mission Bridge Simulator was delivered to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force as part of the Sandy Bottom Project, in cooperation with Damen and equipped with Alphatron Marine systems. Defence organisations choose simulation to build competence across crews that operate a mixed and growing fleet.

Can naval simulators be combined with a full mission bridge?

Naval training scales the same way civilian training does. Skill stations cover individual instrument and procedure training, while a full mission bridge lets a complete watch team train together, including bridge resource management. Many organisations combine both so basic and advanced training run on one platform.

How are classified or specific requirements handled?

Every naval delivery is scoped with the customer. Vessel models, environments and scenarios are tailored to the organisation’s operational profile, and requirements are handled through direct consultation. Booking a demo is the practical first step to discuss what your training programme needs.
