Rotterdam, 13 December 2016 – Arcadis in the Netherlands has purchased a NAUTIS Desktop Simulator to provide 3D Nautical Simulations for the Port of Calais Extension Project.
Last summer, the Port of Calais extension project was approved by the Nord-Pas de Calais Region and Europe. This extension enables the current port to double its size and the new port is expected to enter service between 2020 and 2025.
Arcadis in France was appointed as the lead engineer to lead the design and engineering work and asked their Dutch colleagues to perform nautical simulations to optimise and validate the new port layout.
For this project, Arcadis executed nautical simulations using their real-time manoeuvring simulator SHIP-Navigator in combination with the NAUTIS Desktop Simulator, which provided a realistic 3D outside view including a customised Port of Calais environment.
Simulations were performed to evaluate the feasibility of (de-)berthing procedures of the design vessels under extreme wind conditions. The simulations were performed by Calais pilots, DFDS and P&O captains and Arcadis pilots.
Arcadis is a leading global Design and Consultancy firm for natural and built assets based in Netherlands with over 300 offices around the world. For more information about Arcadis, visit www.arcadis.com
