Training Needs
Find the right NAUTIS setup for your training need
Every training organisation has a different starting point. These pages show how NAUTIS supports each discipline: navigation, inland shipping, towage, naval operations and fishing. New to simulation-based training? Start with what is a bridge simulator, browse our success stories, or book a demo to discuss your programme directly.
Which training need are you solving for?
Maritime training organisations rarely start from the same point. The overview below maps the five disciplines NAUTIS supports to the type of organisation that usually trains them, and to the page that explains the setup in detail.
| Training need | Typical organisation | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Navigation and watchkeeping | Maritime academies, shipping companies | Navigation training |
| Inland shipping | Inland shipping schools and operators | Inland training |
| Towage and tug assist | Tug operators and port service providers | Towage training |
| Naval operations | Navies and coast guards | Naval training |
| Fishing | Fishery schools and fishing companies | Fishing training |
Frequently asked questions
How do we decide which simulator setup fits our training need?
Start from the courses you deliver and the competences you assess, not from the hardware. A programme built around watchkeeping and bridge team assessment asks for a different configuration than familiarisation training. Our specialists map your curriculum against the available NAUTIS classes, so the setup follows the training rather than the other way around.
Can one simulator cover more than one training need?
Often it can. NAUTIS uses a single platform with different vessel models, environments and scenarios, so a centre that trains navigation can extend towards inland, towage or naval exercises without replacing the system. How far that reaches depends on the configuration and the vessel models you licence, which is worth discussing beforehand.
Do we need a full mission bridge to start?
Not necessarily. Many training centres begin with desktop or portable stations for procedure and familiarisation training, and add a larger bridge when student numbers or course requirements grow. Because NAUTIS is modular, existing installations can usually be extended rather than replaced, which spreads the investment across several budget years instead of one.
How does simulator training fit into an existing curriculum?
Simulation works best as a structured part of a course rather than as a demonstration. Instructors build scenarios around specific learning objectives, run them with the trainee group, and use recorded playback for the debriefing. That makes results comparable between students and gives your quality documentation something concrete to refer to.
