SAMTRA Acquires 10 NAUTIS Desktop Simulators

24-04-2025 – VSTEP is proud to announce that the South African Maritime Training Academy (SAMTRA) will be acquiring 10 NAUTIS Desktop Simulators to enhance their ECDIS course offering.

Built on a foundation of intuitive design and powerful simulation capabilities, NAUTIS provides accessible, scalable, and high-quality maritime training. It enables cadets to develop critical skills in a realistic, safe, and immersive learning environment, preparing them for the complexities of real-world navigation.

This acquisition reflects SAMTRA’s continued commitment to innovation in maritime education, equipping instructors and trainees alike with cutting-edge tools that bring training to the next level.

“We are committed to providing our cadets and trainees with the best tools available. The NAUTIS Desktop Simulators will not only strengthen our ECDIS training but also help us make advanced maritime education more accessible throughout South Africa.”

     –   Wayne Beattie, Head of Academics at SAMTRA

This development also highlights the growing wave of African-led innovation in maritime training, as institutions across the continent embrace new technologies to bridge the gap between theory and practical application.

“Our collaboration with SAMTRA is a strong example of how simulation technology can meaningfully transform maritime education. By investing in future-ready tools like NAUTIS, SAMTRA is helping expand access to high-quality training across South Africa and the wider region.”

     –   Alexios R. Limnios, Business Development Team Lead | EMEA

We’re honored to support this important step and look forward to the lasting impact it will have on local and regional maritime professionals.
