Rotterdam, 20 November 2018 – VSTEP is pleased to announce its new working space at RDM, a cutting-edge working space, in the Rotterdam Innovation District. This new location will serve several purposes and assist VSTEP’s goals to streamline processes and improve quality control.
RDM is a new innovation hotspot situated nearby the former shipyard Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM). It sits along the Nieuwe Maas river, which cuts through the heart of Rotterdam. The hub aspires to be the location where the manufacturing of the future will take shape as it provides a dynamic environment where innovative companies can work. RDM is already being used for private-sector, education and research initiatives and is home to a diverse collection of start-ups, SME’s and global players in the offshore and maritime industry.
VSTEP will use the location at RDM for several purposes. It will act as a showroom, displaying an assortment of our advanced maritime simulators. The simulators will be available for demonstrations by VSTEP personnel. Also, the assembly of large orders will be conducted at this location. Our team of experienced simulator engineers will work on tailoring these orders to the agreed upon specifications to ensure customers receive exactly what they ordered. Lastly, this space will be utilized for factory acceptance tests (FAT). These are tests of the equipment and systems to ensure the design and manufacturing meets contract stipulations. The most recent test was a delivery of bridge simulators to the United Arab Emirates Naval Training Centre through CAE.
One of VSTEP’s newest ambitions is the standardization of its hardware solutions. The RDM location will be a place where these standard products can be showcased as well as used for demonstrations. The latest hardware rollout was the new medium control box. “In the future we plan to also release more console hardware for our NAUTIS maritime simulators,” mentions Steve Claes, Technical Director at VSTEP. “These consoles will include the latest technological advancements and emphasize our drive towards effective, high-quality training methods. This complete package will allow us to offer full in-house solutions to our customers. Furthermore, RDM will also be used for other innovations that we are currently focussing on such as our investment in Captain AI, which will stake our claim in the emerging autonomous shipping industry.”
“RDM Rotterdam is a wonderful location for VSTEP. The area blends Rotterdam’s rich maritime history with the city’s focus on innovation and modernity. The hub accommodates a wide variety of tech stakeholders working with the latest state-of-the-art facilities, labs and machinery. It is a great opportunity for us to showcase our world class maritime simulators in this very fitting location. I look forward to seeing our operations in this dynamic environment grow in the future,” says Henk van den Berg, Managing Director at VSTEP.
